The Saskatchewan women's softball team will have some Moose Jaw flavour at the 2019 Western Canada Summer Games in August.

Moose Jaw's Courtney Botterill was the lone local player to crack the squad for the tournament in Swift Current this summer.

"I'm really excited," said Botterill. "There were a lot of good girls, so I was really impressed with myself honestly."

Botterill plays for the Moose Jaw Under-16 A Ice, who sit at 5-5 this season in the Regina Minor Softball League.

She tried out for the team last month and felt like she had a good showing during the tryout to earn a spot on the team.

"I felt like I showed what I had, gave it my all and I was pretty respectful and that's what the coaches are looking for," said Botterill.

Saskatchewan will be the home team when they hit the field in Swift Current in August. Botterill said she’s excited to have a chance to play at the national level in her home province.

"It's going to be tough, it's going to be some good ball, we're going to see some good pitching, I'm really excited for it," she said.

The Western Canada Summer Games run from Aug. 9-18 in Swift Current. Saskatchewan meets Alberta in their opening game on Saturday, Aug. 10 and the gold medal game will go Aug. 13.

Botterill and the Ice will host the Regina Cubs coming up next Tuesday at Optimist Park. First pitch is at 6:30 p.m.
