Two people are in custody after the Moose Jaw Police Service executed a high-risk arrest warrant to start the week.

According to the Police Service, while aiding the Edmonton Police with an ongoing investigation they conducted two high-risk search warrants on a pair of men in Moose Jaw. Jibril Osman was arrested by local officers near a business on the 0 block of Thatcher Drive East on Sunday afternoon.

The following morning officers with the RCMP Emergency Response Team continued their search for the second individual and arrested Abdi Kafor Mahmud Hirsi after locating him at an apartment building on South Hill early Monday morning.

While searching the residence officers found a handgun. Hirsi was also the subject of a Canada Wide Arrest Warrant issued by officers in Edmonton relating to an incident where he faced several charges including kidnapping and firearms-related offenses.

Osman appeared in front of a judge Monday morning and remains in custody. Hirsi is expected to be in court on Tuesday to face charges related to the handgun found during the search of the apartment, and he will also be transferred to the Edmonton Police to face the charges stemming from an earlier incident that brought forward the Canada wide arrest warrant.
