Bell Park was packed throughout the day on Saturday as Moose Jaw Little League officially kicked off their 2017 season with the annual Opening Day celebrations.

Teams from every division hit the field over the course of the day with other activities making for a busy day in the sun.  The true love of the game was on full display with young boys and girls of all ages learning how to play the sport, which continues to grow here in the Friendly City.

“I like when you get to bat and field,” said nine-year-old Kaylee Hogeboon, who’s now been playing baseball for three years.

“My dad loved baseball and played for 18 years and my mom played softball, so I wanted to try baseball.”

The season started on Monday with games happening throughout the week in the lead-up to Saturday’s full day of action.

Baseball season is a short one in Saskatchewan, but the players are always excited to get on the field for the year. “I love the excitement and I like to pitch, I can throw some heat in there,” said Nolan Novak, a nine-year-old that has been playing baseball for four years now.

Novak added that his team came out on the losing end, but had a lot of fun despite the loss.

The Little League season will run for the next couple of months here in Moose Jaw with games happening around the city every day.
