Moose Jaw Mini Rugby is offering an opportunity to learn the fundamentals of rugby to all children ages 6 through 13.

“There’s no tackling, no hitting, it’s entry level,” said Trevor Dawe, Moose Jaw Mini Rugby coach.

“It’s meant to give kids a chance to try rugby out to learn about it, learn some rules and stuff in a low cost, low commitment environment.”

The program runs one night a week and takes place at Ross Wells Park every Tuesday until June 18. While the program is currently in its first week you can still sign up and take part.

“There’s no equipment required to purchase, you don’t need special cleats or uniforms or anything,” said Dawe. “If kids want to jump in on the second week, they’re not going to be behind at all.”

The program is co-ed and broken up into two age brackets, ages 6 to 9 and 10 to 13, and there are plenty of spots available for those who wish to join.

Moose Jaw Mini Rugby’s goal is to keep the commitment required low, allowing the children to learn rugby fundamentals without the hassle of out-of-town tournaments or travel.

“There’s no parent fundraising other than the initial registration of $45, and that’s for the entire program,” said Dawe.
