MOCHORUK

It is with heavy hearts that we announce that in the early morning hours of Tuesday, April 9th, 2024, Mr. Michael Mochoruk passed away peacefully, while at rest, at the age of 100 years.  Michael was born on a farm near Krydor, Saskatchewan, the eighth child in a family of thirteen children.

Michael married Isabel on September 29th, 1951, and they had three sons: Marvyn, Leonard, and Dale.

In April 1943, Michael received the call to report to training to serve in WWII.  In the fall of 1943, he arrived in Rannoch, Scotland after eight days on board the “Aquatinia”.  He arrived back on Canadian soil in Halifax, NS on August 26th, 1946.  Michael then spent forty-two years as an employee at CP Rail.  He started out as an engine wiper then went on to become a fireman on the steam engines.  In July 1956, Michael became a qualified Locomotive Engineer and remained in that position until his retirement on November 10th, 1983.

Michael enjoyed spending time with his family at their cabin at Pasqua Lake.  He took great pride in looking after his yard and garden at home in Moose Jaw.  Michael and Isabel enjoyed being longtime season ticket holders for the Moose Jaw Warriors.  Michael also enjoyed fishing, reading, watching the Blue Jays, keeping up with the latest news and politics, and playing pool and cards.

He was predeceased by his wife of seventy years, Isabel; and son, Marvyn.  Michael is survived by his sons, Leonard (Karen) and Dale (Joelle); daughter-in-law, Marilyn; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and sister, Helen.

The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to the professional and dedicated staff at Pioneer Lodge for the compassionate care Michael received while he was there.  Special mention to Gary, Patty, Marcie, Judy, Margo, Sharon, Necy, and Shannon.  A thank you as well to Dr. Kirsty Sanderson for the great care she provided.

In keeping with Michael’s wishes, a Private Family Service will be held at a later date.
