City Council decides to go ahead with a permanent mattress-recycling program that will cost us 10 dollars at the landfill.

We will continue to pay 10 dollars to drop off old mattresses at the city landfill after a decision of City Council.

Our elected officials have decided to continue with the program that helps to pay for the recycling of the old beds by Moose Jaw's Enviro Mattress Depot.

President Dennis Widenmaier says the service his company provides is saving the environment. "We have recycled approximately 125 mattresses per month and that is approximately 3000 over a 24 month period... if we use 50 per cent of returning what we can't dispose of this particular time, we've still freed up 34,500 cubic feet of landfill space."

Widenmaier explains the communities of Saskatoon and Estevan have voiced their interest in the project and they're currently working on an agreement.
