A 14-year-old long-distance runner is making her way to a Canadian track competition this weekend.

Jadyn Palaschuk will run the 1500m steeplechase, the 2000m race, and the 1600m medley relay at the Royal Canadian Legion National Youth Track and Field Championships in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Aug. 9-11.

“I’ve been doing it since I was in grade four, and I just have fell in love with it. I never really considered sprinting,” said Palaschuk Tuesday.

In only the second time Palaschuk ran the 1500m steeplechase race, she set a provincial record of 5:08 in the event.

“There is four hurdle type things, we’re not old enough to do the water jumps yet, but we do in like two years.”

She’s running the 800m section of the 1600m relay medley and says she's going into the events with the hope of setting a few personal records.

"I’m going for PB’s, cuz there’s a lot of fast girls out there. I’m just trying to go for my personal records."
