Centerfield star, Gerritt Gulutzan, proudly represented the City of Moose Jaw, taking home bronze with Team Saskatchewan at the U15 Ray Carter Cup on Aug. 28.

The tournament was held at Nutana Kiwanis Park, in Saskatoon, and had 11 teams participate from across the country.

When asked about his experience, Gulutzan kept it simple.

“It was awesome. I got to spend a lot of time with the team and play against great competition. We won a few games, and brought home bronze.”

But Gulutzan never settled. His contribution to Team Saskatchewan granted them a 3-3 record and a bronze medal after a 7-2 win over Manitoba.

Team Saskatchewan hosted their first tryout with 160 players in attendance. In the end, only 15 kids were selected for the team. Gulutzan was the only player from Moose Jaw.

“I’ve got to keep elevating my game if I want to compete with the best in the country,” Gulutzan explained. “I’ve been playing Centerfield since I was a young kid, and over the years I got better. I was fortunate enough to make the team.”

He plans on trying out for the 18U AAA team next year, and eventually, play post-secondary baseball at a good school, to develop his education.
