A local athlete is looking for community support to help him get to the Arm Wrestling World Championships in Turkey.

This October, 17-year-old Kaiden Esmond will be competing in the 75 kgs and 80 kgs men's divisions, using both of his arms to take on champions from across the world.

"I am the first youth to go since 2009 to worlds," Esmond said. "It's been almost ten years since someone went and I'm hoping to do good, hopefully, bring something back to Saskatchewan."

His father got Esmond involved in the arm wrestling world in 2003 when he started. Esmond started competing soon after that and has had quite a career. Recently placing first in provincials in Saskatoon and second at nationals in Quebec.

Esmond just graduated from Peacock and now has to raise $12,000 for his dad, who is also his trainer, to get to Turkey.

The athlete has also found a sponsor already in Joe Dirk, the owner of Dirk Fitness Ltd. Dirk is an arm wrestling champion himself and decided to support Esmond in his fundraising efforts.

"Arm Wrestling is something that a lot of people aren't aware of but it's a fairly large sport in the world and something and something that Kaiden should be proud of making it to a world championship," Dirk said. "That means he won nationals and I think as a community we should get together and not only should local businesses [help] but I think everybody, in general, should try and help him out."
