The Royal Canadian Legion Moose Jaw Branch #59 will be looking at what kind of renovations they will need in their building.

A motion was put forward a their meeting earlier this week.

“The motion was to start looking at options for the future, as far as the building, whether that would be renovating where we are, or relocating, and the membership approved that motion to start exploring our options,” said Sharon Erickson with the legion.

The legion's building was built in 1926 and was renovated in the 1960s. A lot has changed in their membership since those days. The membership in the legion is at about half of what it was in those days since the addition, Erickson said.

“We just wanted to start looking at options before we were at a point where it was critical,” said Erickson.

They don't know how much any renovations will cost but they are committing to stay in their current building.

“There’s nothing that isn’t on the table,” Erickson said. “The committee will work and bring it back to the membership down the road when they have options to present and then the membership will have to decide how we go on from here.”

Attempts to increase the membership of the legion have meant opening the doors to anyone who supports their goals and purposes.

“The primary purpose of course, of the legion is to support and advocate for veterans in need,” Erickson said. “And we will continue to do that.”

Anyone interested can call 306-692-5453 or drop by and visit the legion, and let them know if they have concerns or ideas.

“If they’d like to join us we’d love to have them,” she said.
