Journey to Hope is raffling off a queen-sized quilt to raise funds in support of suicide prevention and awareness.

The butterfly quilt was created by Joyce Aitken in memory of Gord Aitken.

"Joyce always chooses symbols that she finds are hopeful or uplifting or symbolic to those who are grieving the memory of a loved one," said Journey to Hope Chair Della Ferguson." She searches out just the right one that speaks to her heart and then she creates and they are masterpieces."

She says Journey to Hope is so grateful to the community for supporting the work that they do.

"We have done things like screening for mental health in both Prairie South School Division and Holy Trinity Catholic School Division. There are certain grades that these divisions are focusing on and they're screening for mental health."

Journey to Hope has sponsored speakers with the school divisions focusing on mental health. Those participating in the past have included Hayley Wickenheiser, Sam Demma, Tyler Smith, and Megan Nash.

Ferguson adds they also sponsor training in suicide awareness and prevention.

Tickets for the quilt raffle are $2 each or a book of 10 for $20. Tickets can be purchased through e-transfer by e-mailing info@hopesummit.ca and including your name and phone number in the message. Those interested can also contact a board member in person.

The draw will be made at the annual Journey to Hope fundraising event on September 30 in Crescent Park which gets underway at 10 a.m.

This is the seventh year the quilt raffle fundraiser has taken place.
