The Moose Jaw Humane Society is seeing some breathing room after having a freeze on the intake of cats at the shelter in late September.

To make room for more cats, the animal shelter held on adoption event at the end of last month that took some of the pressure off the humane society. During the event, kittens were available with just a $100 spay or neuter deposit and adult cats were available for a $25 adoption fee.

However, as winter approaches, they are expecting the intake of cats to increase.

“Pretty soon the weather is going to get colder and when that happens, people who have been seeing strays around their community all summer will give us calls because they're worried about them being out in the cold,” said executive director Dana Haukaas.

With the intake of cats expected to increase, Haukaas added that those who are thinking about getting a cat should consider adoption.

“We have some awesome ones. You name a colour, a size, a personality, we can hook you up, she said.
