Over 6500 claims have been filed this month alone as local producers try and deal with a rash of hailstorms during August.

Hail insurance companies in Saskatchewan are over run with claims after some severe weather this month.

In a two-week period 6500 claims have been filed according to Rob Gorus of the Canadian Crop Hail Association. "It really started out quiet. We had a surprising July with not a lot of hail but a lot of heat but August has been unreal."

Last month 3500 claims were filed in just one week. Gorus figures farmers have lost about 60 million dollars to hail damage. "It makes it difficult for us to get our adjusters out in a timely basis. I know everybody is in harvest mode and don’t like to leave strips but unfortunately we just can't have enough adjusters there quickly enough to get everybody done before they begin their harvest operations."
