By all accounts, the inaugural Greek Night fundraiser presented by the Downtown Moose Jaw Association and Tourism Moose Jaw was a smashing success!

Hundreds of Moose Javians packed into the curling club at Mosaic Place Saturday for an evening of plate smashing, delicious Greek food, and two stupendous musical acts in Arkadia and UnCoolas.

"I think people came into it not entirely knowing what to expect. They probably knew there would be some plate smashing and some good food and that was probably about it," said Jacki L'Heureux-Mason, Executive Director of Tourism Moose Jaw.

"I think people were really surprised at how much fun they had. Smiles all around. Overall we're calling it a smashing success, for the obvious reason," joked L'Heureux-Mason.

L'Heureux-Mason says, while the total isn't official, more than $10,000 was raised. The money will be used for beautification projects by the Downtown Moose Jaw Association and Tourism Moose Jaw’s new trolley, which is expected to arrive next month.

The evening of fine dining, plate smashing, and dancing also came with a chance to win a $4,000 travel voucher.

Genelle Payant, an instructor at Sask Polytech, was the big winner.

"I can tell you I was standing beside her, she was just shaking like a leaf," said L'Heureux-Mason adding that Payant was beyond excited to win.

John Iatridis, Michaela Turner, Gabrielle Belanger, Geoff Anderson and Jacki L’Heureux-Mason all helped organize the event.

As the dust settles and organizers take a well-deserved break, the obvious question has been asked. Will the Greek Night fundraiser return in 2023?

"100 per cent," stated L'Heureux-Mason.

"We'll probably hold it a little earlier in the season because it's not weather dependent, we're probably looking at April," added L'Heureux-Mason.
