Generals goalie Colby Entz battles through traffic in front to make a save in the final seconds of Thursday's 3-1 win over the Regina Pat Canadians at Mosaic Place.

The offence showed up early and the defence held off a late charge for the Moose Jaw Generals on Thursday night.

The Generals picked up their third straight win, knocking off the second place Regina Pat Canadians, 3-1, at Mosaic Place as they continue to bounce back from their ten-game losing skid.

“They're a talented team and they work hard and I thought we matched their work ethic,” said Jeremy Ebbett, assistant coach of the Generals. “We just scrapped it out. Those were the two works we used after the game, just scrappy and gutsy.”

Moose Jaw jumped out to a quick start with back-to-back power play goals from Caleb Riess and Jared Legien in the opening six minutes of the game. Branden Klatt added to the lead with 1:07 to go in the first for all the offence that the Generals would need.

After that, it was all about hard work and determination for the Generals as they withstood some good pressure from the Pat Canadians over the next forty minutes.

“We capitalized on our chances and games like this, we were scrappy and gutsy and that's how we have to win games,” said Ebbett.

Goalie Colby Entz ended up being the difference in the end as he stopped 34 shots to pick up his sixth win of the season. Many coming in the final minutes with Regina pressuring – he stopped 16 shots in the third period alone.

“Colby was the difference, I don't know how he made some of those saves, but he found a way to make them and we couldn't have asked for a better effort out of him,” said Ebbett. “He had traffic all night, a lot of second and third chances and I thought it was his best game of the year by far.”

Mark Edmands scored for the Pat Canadians in the second period and then Regina threw everything at the net over the final few minutes of the third period, looking to pull within one, but Entz found a way to keep the puck out, even with players laying on top of him.

“Our defence helped a lot, they were blocking a lot of shots,” said Entz, who's in his second year with the Generals. “They were laying on top of me and my defence were stopping the puck, so it was a good team win.”

The atmosphere has no doubt changed around the Generals over the past few weeks as they found their way back into the win column after going throughout November without a victory.

The team remained confident during their ten-game losing streak and it's paying off now with three straight wins.

“Everyone has been working hard in practice, which has been making a huge difference,” said Entz. “Coaches were saying the whole time that we were going to find it and it looks like we have.”

The Generals will be in for another big test this weekend with the fourth place Battlefords Stars coming into Mosaic Place for a pair of games on Saturday and Sunday.

“We knew we had our work cutout for us tonight and it's a good test for us and a good measuring stick and we proved that we can play with anybody now,” said Ebbett. “We've got two more tough ones coming this weekend with Battlefords, so we'll have a good day of practice (Friday) and give ourselves another test this weekend.”

Charity Bake Sale Saturday... The Generals will be hosting their annual charity bake sale before Saturday's game against the Stars. The tables will be set up at 11:00am with all the funds going to a still undecided charity.
