There was many great performances for the Flying Fins over the course of the three days, but 13-year-old Danael Liew really stood out as he collected five gold medals and one silver.

"Coming into the meet, I was just trying to do my best and I did pretty well, I'm pretty happy with my results," said Liew.

Liew took first place in the 50-metre butterfly, the 100m freestyle and breaststroke, and the 200m backstroke and butterfly. He was able to secure a new AA standard time in the 200m butterfly at the meet.

"I feel like my technique has improved a lot, me and Laura (Harvey, the Flying Fins head coach) have been working on that for the past few months and it's really coming together," he said. "It helps getting the right pull and entry, so it helps a lot."

12-year-old Chloe Johns also found the podium on six occasions at the meet, including gold in the 50m backstroke and butterfly, the 100m free and the 200m individual medley. She also secured a silver in the 400m free and a bronze in the 200m backstroke.

In addition to hitting the podium, Johns also swam 100-percent lifetime best times in Saskatoon.

"I really enjoyed the way that I swam and got back into racing because we haven't had many swim meets lately," said Johns.

Johns snatched up a AA standard time in her 100m freestyle race as well at the meet. She said that she credits a lot of hard work in practice for getting to where she is right now, "I've been working hard here and it's been paying off, I've just been working on my techniques," she said.

14-year-old Reese Koch picked up four gold and one bronze medals at the meet. She came out on top in the 100m and 800m freestyle, as well as the 200m backstroke and IM. Her bronze came in the 400m freestyle.

"I was taking off time, so it was a good meet for me," said Koch. "Since Laura has been our coach, I've been trying to improve my strokes a lot to make them better and faster and I did that well this weekend."

An example of Koch going faster in the pool this past weekend was the fact that she came away with two AA standard times, hitting the mark in both the 200m IM and the 800m free.

"I feel like I can keep trying to go lower and beat my times," said Koch.

In the lead-up to last weekend's meet, Olivia Harvey and Cadence Johns had the chance to spend the week at the Prospects West camp, which is a national camp that features the top young swimmers from Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia. The camp provided them the opportunity to work with coaches from all three provinces.

Next up for the Flying Fins is a meet in Calgary later this month.
