With floral prints and polyester, the Moose Jaw Western Development Museum is taking you back to the 1960s and 1970s.

The museum will be hosting a Flower Power fashion show on Saturday, June 24, at 1 p.m. The show will feature over 30 pieces from the museum’s hands-on collection. This is the first fashion show held at the Moose Jaw Western Development Museum since 2019.

The show will include mainly women’s clothing and accessories true to the 1960s and 1970s era with a floral theme.

“A lot of the clothing features are floral print or something that's maybe like right into the lace or the actual cloth itself and many of the pieces are from the 60s and 70s when that floral scene was really, really popular,” said Western Development Museum Projects Manager Karla Rasmussen.

The fashion show itself will take place right in the museum gallery at the S.S. City of Medicine Hat steamboat exhibit.

“The bow of this replica is a great little stage, so we have chairs for spectators around the base of that. Our models come out of the ship, walk around the bow and do kind of a twirl through the audience, and then they go back inside to change to their next outfit. So, it is a lot of fun,” Rasmussen said.

Volunteers are needed to model the clothing. Rasmussen did note that most of the clothing is on the petite side equivalent to sizes zero to five.

Those interested in modelling for the show can contact the Moose Jaw Western Development Museum at 306-693-5989.

Admission is the regular museum admission or free for WDM members. Those attending are also welcome to dress up in the Flower Power theme.
