Whether it's the work of arsonists or careless sparks from smokers, Wakamow Park officials want it to stop.

A couple of times in the past few days, fires have started at Wakamow Park.

Wakamow CEO Todd Johnson said it's tinder dry down in the park.

“With not having as much moisture and it being dry throughout the park, we just want to make everyone aware that if a fire starts, it can spread very quickly,” Johnson said. “We’ve got 500 acres here, and there’s a lot of areas to cover, and Mother Nature isn’t really helping out with too much moisture right now.”

While one of the fires was put out by concerned people in the park, Johnson said to call the fire department if you see a fire or the police if you see suspicious activity “immediately.

“Just because it’s such a huge park, we really depend on people to watch out for each other, and of course watch out for the park,” he said. “If they see anything suspicious, call police and fire and help us out with these dry conditions.”
