After about 20 years the City Engineer's Department is making some changes to the cost of certain programs and services it offers to Moose Jaw residents.

City Engineer Ryan Johnson explains inflation and the increase in material fees is the reason. "What we do is the city tries to operate on a cost recovery model. So if the cost is so much... we try to recover those costs and we don't make money at it we just recover what it costs to do the work."

Up until now the city has been losing money while performing these services and a change was needed. The new prices come into affect on January 1st of next year.

The change that will affect the most people is to the building permit fees. It goes from 3 to 5 dollars per 1000-dollar value of the project.
