As of Monday, Saskatchewan has no new confirmed cases of COVID-19, keeping the provincial total at 592.

Of the 592 reported cases, 131 are considered active.  Eleven more people have recovered, bringing the provincial total to 455.

There have been six who have died over the course of the pandemic.

And there are five people currently in the hospital. Of those two are receiving inpatient care, and three are intensive care in Saskatoon. The province notes that hospitalizations are attributed to the location of the hospital and not the patient’s residence.

Of the 592 reported cases, 219 of the cases are from the Far North, 164 are from the Saskatoon area, 106 from the North, 76 from the Regina area, 15 from the South and 12 from the Central region.

Of the 592 provincial cases overall, 139 are travel-related, 321 are community contacts or mass gatherings, 69 have no known exposures and 63 are under investigation by public health.

Forty-eight of the cases are health care workers, and the province says the infections may not be because of their health care in all instances.

Eighty-three cases are of people 19 and younger, and 117 are in the 60-and-older range. Of all of the cases, 49 percent of the cases are male and 51 percent are females.

Thus far, 41,159 tests have been performed in Saskatchewan.

Saskatchewan has the fifth most active cases in Canada, more than Manitoba, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, PEI and Newfoundland and Labrador combined.

The Saskatchewan Health Authority also said that the outbreak at the Meadow Lake Hospital has been declared over.

A staff member tested positive for COVID-19 May 5.

“Staff who had been in close contact with the staff member began self-isolating and were tested. All tests came back negative. Contact tracing and investigation was begun immediately,” a release from the province said. ”The health and safety of our patients and the employees who care for them are of utmost importance to the Saskatchewan Health Authority. Keeping the people we serve, our employees and physicians healthy and safe, is paramount to the work we do each and every day.”  Nationally as of Friday afternoon, there have been over 74,500 confirmed cases and over 5,500 deaths from COVID-19. There have also been over 36,700 recoveries. The United States was nearing 87,000 deaths Friday afternoon and is over 1.43 million cases.
