It's no secret that the City of Moose Jaw has been in the spotlight lately - not just in the province or across the country, but around the world.

That's something that puts a smile on the face of Jim Dixon the Manager of Economic Development for the City of Moose Jaw. He said the buzz surrounding our city and his area of expertise go hand in hand.

"You can't buy this kind of promotion and marketing, while the irons hot we're going to continue and try to keep that momentum going and contribute in any way we can to enhancing that," said Dixon.

Despite that area of his job almost taking care of itself at this point, he said there's still plenty of work to be done. Noting the most recent announcements for development and setting up shop in our city from SaskPower to a distillery, there's still plenty on the horizon for our budding community.

"We've got more to come. We're out there aggressively promoting the city, the advantages of why people should be doing business here, and of course why people would want to live here and that's all part and parcel with it."

And with great excitement comes great responsibility according to Dixon, as he said there will be plenty of open positions for locals and visitors to fill.

"One of the things we really have work on is labour force development and some of those things. We've got the things happening like SaskPower, there's going to be five, six, seven hundred jobs at peak time so we're going to have the labour skilled, and unskilled, to be able to fill positions there. That's part of our strategy is workforce development as well as affordable housing."

He said making sure that people who are coming here to work have adequate housing is another task that's jumping to the top of his list of priorities.

Adding that he couldn't be more pleased with Moose Jaw being centre stage the past few weeks on multiple platforms, Dixon said we all have a role to play in continuing the positive growth in our city.

"It's an exciting time for Moose Jaw. I've been here all my life and I think that we really need to keep the momentum going. It's great to see the community at large engaged in all of this and that's really a critical piece to it."
