Saskatchewan will have to play a tiebreaker at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts to ensure their tournament goes a little longer.

The Robyn Silvernagle rink lost 4-3 in 11 ends to Northern Ontario’s Krista McCarville last night to put their record at 4-and-3. They were tied with two other teams for that final playoff spot, and with heir position in the last rock contest, that puts them against New Brunswick Thursday morning at 8.

“We fought a good battle out there and it went an extra end,” said Saskatchewan third Stefanie Lawton. “Krista made a really good shot for the win. We were so close, so we’re just going to keep that going. We’re just going to keep battling like that and play strong (Thursday).”

Even though there's a very quick turnaround for Saskatchewan from the evening draw Wednesday night to an 8 a.m. draw, third Stefanie Lawton said she doesn't mind.

“Well, to be curling is great, We’re happy to be curling. Even though it is 8 a.m., we’re going to come out firing tomorrow.”

Also on the ice this morning will be a Pool B tiebreaker between Nova Scotia and B.C.

Whether it was the sweepers or the communication or the curlers not reading the broom well enough, Saskatchewan just seemed to be a bit off from where they were earlier in the tournament.

“I think our communication is great out there,” Lawton said. “We’re saying the line and it’s just a matter of trusting ourselves out there and we do. We trust each other out there. It was just one little thing and we’ll learn from that, that’s for sure.”

In the other matches from Draw 14, Nunavut won their second of the tournament – and final match – with a 7-6 win over winless Quebec. The 2-5 record is the best for Nunavut at a Scotties. Manitoba’s Kerri Einarson knocked Alberta’s Laura Walker out of a playoff spot with an 8-5 win, and New Brunswick’s Andrea Crawford defeated Canada’s Chelsea Carey 7-5.

There’s little time to rest for the tiebreaker winners. The first round of the championship round at 12:30 will see the A tiebreaker winner against PEI’s Suzanne Birt, Ontario’s Rachel Homan against McCarville. Einarson against the B playoff winner and the Wildcard rink skipped by Jennifer Jones against Carey.
