As the temperature drops, there is usually an increase in the number of flu cases. To prevent getting sick during flu season, it is recommended that we all get our flu shots.

Dr. Mark Vooght, chief medical officer for the Region, explains which type of influenza they are immunizing against this year.

"We are immunizing against both influenza A and influenza B this year."

Dr. Vooght explains when people start to become sick and how long flu season is expected to last.

"From the end of November is when we'll likely see our first cases. The interesting things is that it can sometimes go all the way into April."

He is also reminding us that the best way to avoid getting sick is to always wash your hands after coming into contact with others who may already be sick.

Vooght added that pretty much everyone should be getting their shots.

"We say everyone over 6 months of age, except those who have had a severe reaction to the vaccine in the past."

You can get a flu shot today at Mosaic Place from 12 until 6:30 PM.
