The controversy surrounding the special investigation aside, the Downtown Facility and Fieldhouse board are struggling to keep all of their seats filled. Earlier this year, a call for nominations for the board yielded only enough applications to fill vacant seats. Now, the board is trying to fill another vacancy after Dave Depape made clear during a meeting in July that the time commitment was too much.

Applications for the open seat will be accepted until City Hall closes on August 14th. Those interested need to include a resume and cover letter explaining why they want the position and how they are qualified. An interview process will be held following the deadline, once a committee has had a chance to sift through the applications and make a recommendation to city council of the chosen few. In 2016, just before the municipal election, the old DFFH board was disbanded following a scathing report from Meyers Norris Penny that outlined how the facility fell into deficits, despite early success. A three-person board made of councillors had been handling Mosaic Place and Yara Centre until a motion in November 2017 to recruit a full board for the facilities that included four members of the community.

According to the City of Moose Jaw website, current members of the board include Councillor Brian Swanson, Councillor Crystal Froese, Councillor Scott McMann, City Manager Jim Puffalt sitting in for the Director of Parks & Recreation, George Fowler, Bernie Girardin and Shaun Jeffery.
