Now that the month of February has come and gone, the numbers have been released by SaskPower on how much power we used in the province.

SaskPower's Jordan Jackle detailed what day saw the most power consumption.

"The most power demand we saw in February was actually on the 4th, 3,723 megawatts on demand at the moment. A record was not set."

"We've seen a new record set every winter for the past number of years now; we haven't seen one yet this winter. It really does take the right combination of both industrial load and high residential demand. That's why we often see that record set over the supper hour as people are getting home, plugging in their vehicle, making supper and turning on their lights."

When it comes to how much power the province projects to use, Jackle explains some factors they look into.

"Certainly weather is one of them. Often times we can generally forecast industrial load as well depending on our conversations with big industrial customers in the province as well. We see those peaks set in the winter during those bitter cold snaps, then in the summer we see the summer peak set when everyone's air conditioners are running at full blast."

Despite it being the coldest of the winter, the record for most power consumption in both a day and a month belongs to December 2017.
