It was a room packed full of sombre faces Saturday as the Moose Jaw and District Labour Council held a memorial service for those lost as a result of a work place incident.

April 28th marked a National Day of Mourning and aims to bring awareness to the issue of workplace safety. Guests in attendance held a moment of silence for those lost, as well as laying wreaths and a special reading of names of those lost.

President of the Labour Council Stacey Landin says it should be up to the employer to make sure that employees are protected on the job. "We have to be conscious of the things that we do that are safe and so on but it's up to them ultimately to protect us so we need to make then accountable and to fight for better legislation."

Wreaths honouring those lost will be on display outside the Moose Jaw Union Centre.
