Waves of devastating posts filled social media on Sunday when residents learned that someone had vandalized the Amphitheater in Crescent Park.

Police were quickly notified that morning of what could be seen as more than a dozen tags, or pieces of graffiti covering the area and broken park benches which was also the site of the Brain Boogie hosted by the Saskatchewan Brain

Injury Association that very morning.

Thanks to residents, local Police, and city crews and contractors the mess was cleaned up and things were just about back to normal by the middle of the workday on Monday.

Many residents were very upset because of the wreckage to the murals, but Communications Manager for the city Craig Hemingway, said they look almost as good as new again.

"One good thing about the murals is they are created or designed with a certain coating that does allow clean up of graffiti without damaging the mural itself. We did hire a professional to come and do that cleaning and so the tags have been removed and I'm happy to say that.... you can not tell that there was graffiti there before."

Despite what may have seemed like a large mess at first glance, Hemingway noted that thankfully the repairs didn't come with an impacting price tag.

"In this case, we're looking at about $850 in damage... and that pays for the repairs of the benches, the labour as well, plus for the third party to do the cleaning of the mural. Not an amount that's going to have a drastic impact on any budgets."

In certain situations some try to see the silver lining which is exactly what the city did, adding that they couldn't have asked for more helping hands over the past few days.

"All these instances are certainly disappointing, on the other side of this it was really heartening to see the response by Moose Javians to this. The response was tremendous, dozens of people offered to help with the cleanup and restoration and that certainly speaks to the pride and spirit people have about our city. We thank everybody for their willingness to chip in and help."

The only thing left for crews to do is paint the pieces of brand new plywood forest green to match the existing ones, and the hope to be done the last portion of repairs by Wednesday night.
