It appears as though some work is finally being planned for the corner of Main and River Street after two years of emptiness.

It was an even that will stick in the minds of local residents for years to come. Massive flames devouring historic buildings, fire fighters braving the cold to try and save what they could, ice clinging to everything in site, several feet thick in some places.

The New Year's Day Fire of 2004 devastated Moose Jaw and made national news as the historic downtown core lost three key buildings. One has been rebuilt and is home to Past Times Photography, two others were leveled and since then nothing has been done, with the exception of some fences being put up.

Well now there's some good news as Moose Jaw City Engineer Ryan Johnson tells us a developer has apparently stepped forward and has expressed interested in buying the old Johner's Store site on Main Street.

Al that remains is to find someone to develop the corner lot where the ice cream store used to be. "Unfortunately because this is private land the city can't get involved unless the property becomes untidy and unsightly then we have bylaws to deal with that type of situation. The city doesn't really have any ability to force someone to build on land. It would be up to the landowners to negotiate with a developer or to develop themselves."

Few details are being released about the proposed development until the final contract has been signed.
