It is with great sadness that we announce the loss of our Cindy Florene Hardie on June 19, 2022, at the age of 51. She was born on June 8, 1971, in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan into a loving family of eight children. She grew up taking dance, gymnastics, volunteering at the YMCA, working at the Capital movie theater and helping on the family farm. During this time, she also excelled at ringette and piano. Cindy spent her summers at a sea cadet camp in Gimli, MB, where she developed her sailing skills. With this background Cindy became an accomplished sailor who competed at the provincial and national levels. When Cindy graduated High School she followed this sailing dream to Vancouver Island, where she enrolled in the National Coaching Institute and became the competitive sailing director at Royal Victoria Yacht Club. She was honoured to represent Canada as coach for two sailing teams at the Paralympics. While working as the sailing coach at Brentwood College School she met and married Alistair; together they became the House Parents at the college, while also starting their own family.

In 2011 Cindy, Alistair, and their three daughters moved to Calgary AB, and Cindy’s passion for the health food and nutrition aspect of coaching became her focus. She began working at Community Natural Foods, quickly moving her way up to head office. The family also added a special dog Loki to the fold. Skiing, hiking, camping, spending time in nature and on the water were the favorite pastimes of the Hardie family. Cindy, everyone who had the privilege to know you will miss you: your husband Alistair Hardie, your daughters Marina, Fiona and Sophie, infant son Stewart (deceased) and your fur-child Loki; your father Jim (deceased) and mother Val; siblings Monte Sheppard (Mona); Ron “Skum” Sheppard (Sue Klotz); Scott “Pube” Sheppard (Jacquie Moore); Tammy Sheppard (Marc Rochette); Lance “Nip” Sheppard (Charlotte Saunders); Jody Mann; Tracy Sheppard (deceased) (Brian Laberge); and nieces and nephews who cherished their Auntie Cindy; Lance, Brett, Ty, Paige, Syd, Jenna, Jack, Bree, Brooke (deceased), Kricket, Kaylee and Renee. As well as a long list of extended family and friends.

Cindy had a long battle with Cancer, which she met with grace, dignity, and determination. She gave everything she had to fight this disease - and more. We will remember her as a badass, competent, powerful woman who fought for what she wanted and never gave up until she got it. A fantastic mother with a big heart and an incredible capacity for empathy. A lifetime of friends and family will miss you forever. A small gathering of family and friends will celebrate Cindy’s Life Saturday 16 July 2022 1:00pm Summit Room at Rundle College 7379 17 Ave SW Calgary, AB
