The struggles continued for the Moose Jaw Chiefs on Wednesday night. The Chiefs lost their third straight game, falling 9-4 to the Regina Heat in a tightly contested rivalry game at the Kinsmen Arena.

With the loss, Moose Jaw's record falls to 3-4 on the year in the Prairie Gold Lacrosse League's senior division.

"We started off slow and we got down in a hole and then we started to get some offence going, but couldn't put the ball in the net," said Chiefs' Todd Doepker.

Carter Davis had a hat trick and four points in the loss for Moose Jaw, while Tanner Kittler picked up a goal and two points, and Frank Davalos finished with two assists.

The Chiefs trailed 3-0 after the opening period and Regina extended that lead to 6-0 with three quick goals to open the second. Moose Jaw started to push back, but the Heat just seemed to have an answer for everything that their rivals through at them throughout the game.

Doepker said the way that the game played out was definitely frustrating for the Chiefs, but he saw a positive in that.

"We were frustrated that we weren's executing," he said. "In past seasons, we would get frustrated with each other, but this game, we were frustrated with our ability to finish. We were doing lots of good things, but they played well too.”

The biggest issue for the Chiefs was a lot of their shots coming from the outside. They weren't able to find the lanes to push towards the net for the higher percentage chances.

"They played good defence and for whatever reason we weren't hitting our pick-and-rolls right to get to the middle," said Doepker. "Just nothing was clicking tonight, (Sheldon Paul) played pretty good and we should have been able to beat them with only nine goals against."

Blake Schindel and Dylan Lefebvre scored twice each in the win for Regina, while captain Kyle Bellegay chipped in with three assists.

After playing three games in five days, the Chiefs will get some time to recharge over the long weekend. They return to the court next Friday to host the Saskatoon SWAT.
