Carnie's Comments

It was this week in history, back in 1989, Tim Berners-Lee wrote the first proposal, outlining the principal concepts and defined the terms. The plan was for an information management system and he showed the world the first successful communication between a Hypertext Transfer Protocol client and server via the Internet.

Here we are, 35 years later, and the world is at our fingertips. The World Wide Web literally changed the way we communicate, do business and live our lives.

It was in the early 90s a guy I knew from high school pulled into my driveway while I was mowing the lawn. He told me he was in the process of looking for partners to invest in the Internet.

I didn't know much about it, really. I was skeptical.

He wanted me to trust him with $5,000.00. He said once he had $100,000.00, he'd invest it in the Internet and we'd all make a ton of money.

I told him I wasn't willing to take the risk and turned him down.

You know, I don't think I've seen that guy since. I'll wonder if he invested in the Internet and made $millions?

I'll probably never know. Actually, I don't want to know.
