I remember her but hadn't thought about her for years and then I saw her obituary on DiscoverMooseJaw.com this week.

Mrs. Duffin - Leila Eunice Duffin.  She was my homeroom teacher when I was in grade 10 at Central Collegiate.  Her room was on the 4th floor.  I got my exercise that year.I also had the pleasure of being in one of her English classes.  She was strict but had a passion for teaching young people.

The term project in that class was to create a poetry anthology featuring our favourite poets.  I didn't have any favourite poets in grade 10 so I was lost.  But, one day, while I was listening to records, it dawned on me.  I'd feature Simon & Garfunkel and their song lyrics in my anthology.

I wasn't sure Mrs. Duffin would like that, but I took a chance and did my best.  She loved it.  In fact, she told me it was a "brilliant" idea, and I got an "A" on that project.

You don't forget things like that.  I won't forget Mrs. Duffin.
