The curling season opened up over the weekend here in the province with the Colonial Square Ladies Classic in Saskatoon.

The Penny Barker rink put together an up-and-down, but solid weekend on the ice, going 2-3 in its five games over the three days.

The local team opened their season with a 7-2 win over Kourtney Fesser on Friday night.

On Saturday, Barker fell 6-2 to Japan's Sayaka Yoshimura in the morning and then she dropped a 7-5 game to Regina's Ashley Howard rink, which features Moose Jaw's Kaitlin Corbin at second.

The Barker rink bounced back on Sunday morning with a 7-3 win over China's Jie Mei, but they couldn’t carry the momentum over into the 'C' final in the afternoon, as they fell 8-2 to Amber Holland.

The playoff round continues on Monday. The Howard rink is into the semifinals at 10 a.m. and the final goes at 2 p.m. Click here for the full schedule.
