The Moose Jaw Midget Astros couldn’t hold an early lead on Monday night as they lost 4-3 to the Ponteix Pirates in Wood River Baseball League action at Montgomery Field.

The loss snapped a three-game winning streak for the Astros, who now sit at 4-2 on the year with both losses coming against the Pirates.

“We were a little rough in some spots today, but we had an okay game,” said Astros’ Steven Hartmann after the loss.

Moose Jaw opened the game with a run in the first inning and added two more in the third inning to take a 3-0 lead, but their bats went cold after that as they were held without a hit over the next three innings.

The Pirates heated up as the game went on after being no-hit through the first four innings, picking up a pair of hits and a pair of runs in the fifth and sixth innings to steal away the win.

“Our batting struggled today,” said Riley Marshall with the Astros. “It wasn’t the worst game, we made a couple of errors, but that happens.”

The Astros are a new team in the Wood River Baseball League and Marshall said the team is coming together well.

“Chemistry is fairly good, we’re getting along decent,” he said. “The league isn’t really too competitive, so it’s good.”

The Astros will be back on the field on Wednesday when they travel to Coronach.
