Saskatchewan producers have made a significant venture into the soybean market last year with a substantial increase in acres.

Last week, however, producers did see a drop in soybean prices following a recent rain in Argentina.

"The market was taken a bit by surprise, the forecast heading into the New Years appeared that the system was not going to hit the Argentinian growing areas to quite an extent and that's what caused the market to go downward quite aggresssively." Said CWB Weather and Crop Specialist Bruce Burnett.

Farmers are being told to expect some volatility in canola nad soybean markets over the next while as traders pay close attention to what's happening with the weather in South America.

Burnett adds that there is a large expectations for South America, with the only concern at this point being dryness in Argentina.
