Team Canada got into the win column to open the IIHF World Junior Hockey Championships yesterday. Moose Jaw Warrior Denton Mateychuk got an assist on Canada's opening goal as they cruised to a 5-2 win over Finland. The Warriors' Brayden Yager was held off the scoresheet. Canada is back in action this afternoon when they face Latvia.

Meanwhile, the Moose Jaw Warriors return from their Christmas break on Friday when they host the Regina Pats. The puck drops at 7 p.m. You can catch all of the action on Country 100 with the voice of the Warriors James Gallo.

Fourteen games are on the slate in the NHL tonight with four Canadian teams in action. The Toronto Maple Leafs host the Ottawa Senators, the Winnipeg Jets are in Chicago to face the Blackhawks, and the Calgary Flames are at home against the Seattle Kraken.

In the NBA, the Toronto Raptors had the night off. They are back in action tonight when they face the Washington Wizards.
