Statistics Canada has released their census numbers and they show we are losing people to Alberta at an alarming rate.

The numbers released today from Statistics Canada show Saskatchewan population has dropped by nearly 11 thousand people in the last 5 years, dating back to 2001. Statistics Canada points out significant losses were due to migration to other provinces, especially Alberta.

We’re getting smaller while the rest of the country is growing. Between 2001 and 2006, Canada's population increased 5.4%.

The City of Moose Jaw showed no change and is holding steady with a population of 32 thousand, while Regina grew by 0.6% to 179,246, and Saskatoon is our province’s largest city with a 2006 population of 202,340.
