The provincial government has announced 1 million dollars in funding for various programs across the province that help to improve the lives of immigrants.

The Government of Saskatchewan is providing almost 1 million dollars to improve settlement supports and language training for newcomers across the province.

Minister Responsible for Immigration Pat Atkinson tells us that some of that funding from the one-time grant is coming to Moose Jaw. "The Moose Jaw MultiCultural Council is receiving funding from the province of $25,000. That’s really good news and obviously these newcomers are moving to both rural and urban communities across the province and there's no question that we saw a dramatic increase in immigration last year."

The number of immigrants landing in the province in 2006 rose by 26 per cent to 2,658.
