Have you ever just mailed one in? I mean, just coast your way through the workday? I think most of us have.

It's not easy to do in the broadcasting industry. We have a mandate to deliver information and deadlines to beat each and every day.

I'm thinking about that today after a friend shared a piece about "awards that don't exist". They include "working the longest, making the fewest mistakes and living up to everyone's expectations".

I can remember the 1980s when just having a decent job was almost a status symbol. There weren't many jobs to be had back then so if you had one, you worked hard. I once had a job with a supervisor who didn't allow lunch breaks. We just accepted it. That's illegal now. Actually, it was illegal back then too but we didn't complain.

I think it's safe to say that work-life balance is more prevalent in most workplaces these days. That's a good thing.

I was going to mail one in today but this piece I'm reciting right now took me about 30 minutes to write.

I'm exhausted.
