The congregation at Zion United Church is gathering together to raise funds to replace the building’s boiler.

The price tag is expected to get around $100,000 to replace it.

“The boiler has about 42 years under its belt and it's been patched and prodded to get us to where we are now. But we're really faced with a replacement at this moment,” said congregation spokesperson Jack Ross.

Zion is a landmark in downtown Moose Jaw. Opening in 1912, the building has housed numerous Christmas Carol Festivals, Kinsmen Band Festival, Moose Jaw Music Festivals, weddings, funerals, and church services.

The Casavant pipe organ at the church was the first fully installed pipe organ in Western Canada and continues to be maintained by the congregation, over 100 years later. The church also includes a unique dome with a stained glass center.

“The building stands as a treasure in Moose Jaw's Main Street, so it's our responsibility to keep it running and keep things in perfect operating condition,” Ross said.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help raise funds for the new boiler. The fundraiser can be found here

The congregation is hoping to have the boiler replaced this summer.
