Firefighters battle the YWCA fire in 2009
Flames reaching into the night sky. Embers floating onto neighbouring homes causing more damage. Walls collapsing and smoke rising hundreds of feet into the air. For many, the 2009 YWCA Fire is still a vivid memory but for one group, they're making new memories as construction is well underway at the site of the old YWCA building.
Construction is underway on Ominica Street West and Doug Trithardt of G.E Noren & Partners explains that they are the ones working on the site to turn an empty lot into a worthwhile investment.
"It's an office building for our firm." said Trithardt. "We've decided that we're going to be here for the long term and have decided to invest in our own building."
Trithardt doesn't have an exact completion date but says they plan to move in before the end of 2011.
