The Saskatchewan Selects have shown a lot of growth over its first seven seasons, but the talk on Tuesday focused on the future for the program.

The local youth football program signed a three-year deal with the City of Moose Jaw to become a primary tenant at Yara Centre.

"Now the hard work begins," said Selects program director Zeljko Stefanovic at the announcement on Tuesday. "It's been a journey over the last seven years and now we finally have a home, so now we can start actually finalizing some of those plans and putting them to work. Football in Saskatchewan is alive and well, and a facility like this is going to help us to make it even better."

The Selects have been practicing out of Yara Centre during their entire time as a program, however, this new deal will allow them to expand their programming outside of the current winter program.

Mayor Fraser Tolmie said this is the kind of programs that they want to be making Moose Jaw home.

"To be able to attract people from all over Canada and the United States is really exciting," said Tolmie. "I've driven by here a few times and the parking lot is overflowing and that means that many people are coming and visiting our community.

"Someday we're going to be sitting there watching the Grey Cup or the Super Bowl and we’ll see someone from Moose Jaw or someone that's trained here in that game and I'm pretty excited."

Currently, the Selects offer players the chance to continue their football season in the winter with four teams -- 10-and-Under, 12U, 14U and Varsity -- that travel to San Antonio, TX to play against 50 other teams in an annual tournament, the International Pigskin Classic.

The Selects are now looking to expand their program into the spring and summer months to help players prepare for their upcoming football season or the jump to the next level.

Over 200 kids from around Saskatchewan are currently a part of the program, including 25 from Moose Jaw this season.

"We want that program to stay here, we want the excellence training that comes along with it to be in Moose Jaw and take advantage of this tremendous facility, this is the place that if you want to get football training to come," said Jim Puffalt, Moose Jaw City Manager.

The tenant agreement has been signed through November 2021.

The Moose Jaw Soccer Association will also remain as a primary tenant after City Council approved a new three-year deal for the organization on Monday. The deal will be officially signed on Wednesday at Yara Centre.
