Like the trades, police officers have been a male-dominated occupation, but women are showing they are just as capable of doing the job.

During this month’s Business Women of Moose Jaw monthly meeting, female officers with the Moose Jaw Police Service and Chief Rick Bourassa were the guest speakers.

Const. Brittainy Clement is a seven-year veteran of the force and says things have definitely changed since she started.

“When I was first hired seven years ago, I only worked with three other females and now we are up to 10,” Clement said. “So we are definitely hiring more and it’s becoming a lot more accepted to be a female police officer.”

Clement was joined by Const. Alanna Coghill, who she is training. Coghill has been on the force for the past two months and Clement felt it was great having female officers paired together as they can relate to each other.

The Business Women of Moose Jaw holds meetings on the last Wednesday of every month and usually have guest speakers.

“The purpose of these events is for networking and to have a support system and that sort of thing for women in business in Moose Jaw and area,” said president Kayla Dale.

The next big event for the Business Women of Moose Jaw will be the 2020 PRISM Awards gala on March 7. Tickets are available at https://www.businesswomenmoosejaw.com/prism-awards-2020.
