The Provincial Government proclaimed this week as Women Entrepreneurs Week in Saskatchewan. This is a time to celebrate the success of women entrepreneurs and their contributions to our communities and the economy.

Right now there are over 34,000 women in Saskatchewan who are self employed - and that includes Amber Cameron, Owner of Radiant Skin Clinic here in Moose Jaw.

Cameron shared with us why she wanted to be an entrepreneur.

"Being self employed is something that people aspire toward so they can control more time in their life. A lot of it has to do with not being dictated by someone else. Along with not having a ceiling. If I was to get into a job or a career I would have a ceiling, so this way I can sort of shoot for the sky."

She explains that living in Canada has provided opportunities that other countries might not.

"I always have a lot of gratitude that I am a Canadian female and I am allowed legally to be into business and I don't take that lightly. There are places around the globe where there aren't allowed to be women entrepreneurs. For me to have this passion, and be in Canada and be able to create myself and go for something - I just don't take that lightly."

Cameron was asked if she had any advice for someone looking to get into business.

"It would be important to find a mentor. I think if you can go and speak to somebody who's in the business you want to be in and has gone down a path that you would like to go down, and they're not going to be a competitor( maybe find somebody in another community), go talk with them and sit with them and see if you can pick their brains. It's not something to just jump into."

Cameron says being raised on a farm and watching her parents work is what made her decide to be self employed and get into business.
