Back in July a young woman set out on the highway just outside of Moose Jaw on a foggy day, much like it has been this week, not knowing what was lying ahead.

This vibrant lady did not know at that time that her life was about to change. As she attempted to navigate through the unfavourable conditions, she collided with a semi. Since that moment she's been focusing on her health and trying to

recover.

Shortly after the multi-vehicle crash she underwent surgery and spent the rest of her summer and fall in a wheelchair. Recently Amber Vegso, from the community of Briecrest, upgraded to crutches and a walker to support her and to get around. While this might seem like a positive thing she has faced many challenges, especially when it comes to moving through her home and running errands.

Earlier this week Vegso, who grew up in Moose Jaw, came into the city to get some Christmas shopping done, but it was a short-lived task. After making it through only two stores she got overwhelmed and gave up, as she couldn't get around, wasn't offered help from bystanders and had to stop various times to pick up items she had accidentally pushed off a shelf while using her walker.

"There's no storage on them and I was bumping into things on shelves and racks, and knocking stuff over. I started to get frustrated and give up. I started heading back to my vehicle and I met this elderly couple at the doors," explained Vegso.

What she didn't know was at this moment her luck was about to turn around and her faith in humanity was going to be restored. The gentleman held the door open for not only his wife but Vegso as well. As the two traveled through the doorways both using walkers, he sparked a conversation with Vegso inquiring as to why a woman who appeared rather healthy was using this kind of equipment. She told the man her story and the medical journey she's been through since, including her dissatisfaction with the walker she's been using.

"He said I have another one of these walkers, pointing to his wife, that has the wheels, a basket and a little seat on it. He said he picked it up and got a deal on it as it needed some work, but he would do the work for me and bring it out to me."

As the man insisted Vegso try their spare walker, he proceeded to pull it out of his vehicle and brought it over to the young woman and suggesting she take it for a test drive. Noticing how much easier it was to move with it and the big difference something as small as a seat or storage space makes, Vegso was interested.

"I said I'll give you some money for it, he said 'oh no, I knew I'd find somebody that would be in need of this, I'm just so happy to give it to you and I feel like I was meant to find you and give this (walker) to you'. He loaded it in my vehicle for me, took all my bags and loaded all my bags into my vehicle for me."

Vegso said thanks to this man and his wife for their generosity and kindness she's back in the Christmas spirit and inspired to do the same for someone else once she's fully healed.

She may not have gotten their names, but their actions will forever leave a footprint on her heart.
