The announcement last week of a $250,000 donation from Conexus Credit Union has taken the Moose Jaw Health Foundation Capital Equipment Campaign into the home stretch. With a goal of $8 million to equip the new regional hospital, the campaign is said to be about 90% complete.

The hard work of the group and support from the community means they be done before the hospital even opens.

"If things can come together it would be nice to be able to see it wrap up before that." said Health Foundation Volunteer Chair James Murdock. "But we're not taking anything for granted and there is still a lot of work to be done."

Murdock has been most impressed by the community response to the campaign saying residents from Moose Jaw and rural area are opening their wallets and hearts to make sure this new hospital is state of the art.

The new hospital should be up and running in October as construction is now reaching the finals days. Five Hills Vice President of Environmental Service, Jim Allen estimates that major construction is 97% done, with exception of the hyperbaric suite.

With that in mind, he's been very impressed with the work of the fundraising committee.

"I can't say enough about the job that the foundation and the Capital Campaign Committee has done." said Allen. "It really is amazing how much money that they have been able to raise and how much support they have been able to garner out of the community. We'd never have been able to do this without that assistance."

Allen says it's one thing to put the building up but without the donations for equipment, their work would be for nothing.
