Moose Jaw Transit released its 'Wing in the New Year' numbers Tuesday.

According to the release, the annual initiative from SGI and the City of Moose Jaw gave 87 people a safe ride to ring in 2019.

Communications Manager with the City of Moose Jaw, Craig Hemingway, said, "Even one person off the road who might otherwise be considering driving home after doing some celebrating, that would be successful. We're pleased with the 87 number."

Hemingway said they saw more than a 100 % increase in ridership on New Year's eve compared to 2017. "Considering last year, we only had 37. Certainly, we're very pleased to see the uptake this year." He said the addition of two new routes on New Year's eve - in front of Mosaic Place, and next to the Royal Canadian Legion - may have been a reason for the increase in ridership.

2018 was the 30th year for the free, safe-ride program.
