Created to give other people the same opportunities that they received, the Moffat family awards money to charity groups that better the lives of families and children.

Nine local groups recieved the funding last year, all of which contribute to helping improve the lives and experiences of families and kids.

Karen Henders, Acting Executive Director at the South Saskatchewan Community Foundation, talks more about the fund.

"The intention was that there would be grants that would be awarded in communities across Canada where the Moffat family operated their immediate business. This includes Moose Jaw. That is why we are able to offer, on behalf of the Winnipeg foundation, and administer the Moffat fund."

"This is a really good example of some forward thinking and generosity on part of the Moffat family. They started the fund at the Winnipeg Foundation in 2001 with a $100 million donation. So it's a really great opportunity for charities."

Wednesday is the deadline to apply for the grant. Groups can apply online at sscf.ca
