It was an emotional and exciting game at Mosaic Place this past weekend for the Moose Jaw Warriors, as it was their turn to host a Don Cherry night.

Each team in the Western Hockey League will take turns being a host, while raising awareness for organ donations.

The team wore special addition Don Cherry jerseys and throughout the game held a silent auction for attendees to bid on them. With the silent auction and jersey raffle the Warriors raised over $14,000 which will go to the Kidney Foundation.

"They loved the jerseys, they loved playing (in) them and getting to meet fans after the game and thanking them for donating to the Kidney Foundation was a huge deal for these guys," explained Rachel Sproule, Manager of Special Events and Hockey Programs.

Not only was it a highlight night for our local WHL team, but the Warriors also had special guests Brad and Sandra Stewart as part of the ceremonial puck drop at the beginning of the game. The Stewarts are a local family who lost their son in an accident, but he was able to save five people's lives through organ donation.

"To have that family there to bring awareness to organ donation and that the donors are the real reason why organ donation happens and people can continue to live their lives. We were just super proud to be a part of it."

Kidney Foundation representatives had a merchandise table set up at Saturday's game, with those proceeds also going back to the foundation.
