The Wakamow Valley Authority is currently leasing 28.1 acres of land within Wakamow Valley from the Saskatchewan Government, and that lease is set to expire on March 31.

Todd Johnson, the general manager for the Wakamow Valley Authority is hopeful that the nearly 30 acres of park space will continue to be used as part of the trail system in the valley after the sale of the Valley View Centre Property.

"We're still in discussions with the Saskatchewan Government about taking care of that land, and ways that we can take care of it into the future. We're still chatting with them and looking at options and seeing what options the board may have and what options the park may have."

The land is part of the Kingsway Ecological Zone Trail portion of the vast system of interconnecting trails through the valley, which Johnson said is truly a "hidden gem"

"That whole parcel - there are two parts to it, the upper level and then where the Eco-zone is. Most of the Eco-zone is a floodplain. You wouldn't be able to build on that."

"We're still hopeful that we can come to an agreement. Its a pretty important part of the park and we've received lots of calls to the office here and support from people wondering how they can help. We're just hoping that we can continue to talk and come up with a solution from there."

Johnson says they haven't discussed or put much thought into the implications if the land was to be sold because they still have hope that the authority and the provincial government can come to an agreement.
